Week 11 : Ann Landers, Descriptions of Books and Novels

The first, we had mid-term test for 1 hour. Then we studied about "Ann Landers, Descriptions of Books and Novels"

Teacher gave some books to us to see what do you look when you decide to buy books such as name of book, the author and description

Next, teacher gave sheet to us to read eight short descriptions of books and novels. We should read the questions amd then skim the answers. Compare my answers with another student.
Eight short descriptions are - Diana: Her True Story
                                        - Aspects of Britain and the USA 
                                        - Aung San Suu Kyi : The Voice of Hope 
                                        - A Life for God : The Mother Teresa Treasury 
                                        - The Lost World 
                                        - You Belong to Me
                                        - Message in a Bottle
                                        - Sacrament

I noticed the descriptions have name of book, the author, introduction of book, publisher, year of published, number of pages, and price

Week 10 : West meets East (Continued)


19 October 2015
     

     Today I studied West meets East continued from last week. Teacher assigned us to do the exercise before we studied this week it made easier when we studied in class because we found the vocabularies's meaning that we don't know already.
     First of all we discussed the questions with a partner about celebrities, food, and products from another Asian countries.

    Next, we completed the sentences with the correct words and the words may need to be changed to match the sentence grammatically. The words in this exercise were new knowledge for me. Luckily, I did it already but it took a long time if I did it in the class I think I would have a problem.

     After that, I and some friends wrote our own sentences on the board about using like and such as  for example

     I would like to visit place with beautiful building like France and Germany

     The passage that we studied this week was 'Expat in Asia'. It was about interview with an American English professor (Michael) teaching in Taiwan. The teacher gave us to talk with our partner to think the questions to ask the foreigner what information we want to know such as 
- How long have you been here?
- What places do you like the most in Thailand?
- Why  do you choose to stay  in Thailand?






     I got Taiwanese culture, Taiwan's strengths and weeknesses and Micheal's opinions after I had read it. I like Taiwan's greatest strength is the quality of doggedness that they don't give up the trouble and into new successes. And Micheal's opinion, he said "We just don't cofuse 'love' with 'control.'"  because parents in Asia countries can't discriminate between "love" and "control" it makes problem with their children

Week 9 : West meets East

5 October 2015

Today I studied new lesson that was "West meet East". First of all, teacher showed the pictures to us like this

     Then we did excercises in sheet about the famous food, actors, movies, TV shows, musicians or music groups, and athletes in my country that have become popular overseas. After that we shared our opinion with our partner together.

     Next exercise that we do was complete the sentences with the keywords in bold from the text and discuss the questions with a partner.

     We read 'The "Asianization" of the United States. It was very hard for me because the vocabularies was too hard and some sentences was not clear. When I had problem, I solved problem by search meaning in dictionary and tried to guess meaning from sentences.
    
      After that we answered the questions about True(T) or False(F) and tell meaning in the passage without using a dictionary.
 
     The last, teacher assigned us to do exercise for next time. Next week we don't have class because she was busy.

 



Week 8 : Fashion (Continued)

     We continued to study Fashion from last class. The topic was hairstyles. The first activity was to look at the pictures that are hairstyles pictures and solve the anagrams about hair. Some hairstyles I have never known before.

     Then we read the article 'SPLITTING HAIRS' it told us about hairstyle of each country like a Korea, Japan, Taiwan, The UK, and The US. It was very different and I found new words in this article such as 
     big deal = said when you do not ​think that what someone has said or done is ​important or ​special
     Rastafarians = a ​member of a ​religious ​group that ​began in Jamaica and ​worships Haile Selassie

     Next, we made groups for discuss about hairstyle that we like the most and explained it to our friends 


     
     last thing that we did today, the teacher assigned us to answer question "Your university has decided that all female students should have long hair and all male students should have crew cut.Write to the student magazine with your opinion about this." 

     I think that the new hair rules are a bad idea because they should have freedom to choose their hairstyle. I think that male students shouldn't have crew cut because when their hair longer, they will cut it and it makes them lose money a lot. I think that Female students don't have only long hair because some girls don't like it and short hair is more comfortable. I also think that don't force them about their hairstyles because hairstyles can't stop their studying and make them behave badly.
